Meet Leo and Simba, two of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet, and this week's CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Leo (brown tabby, 14 years old) and Simba (orange tabby, 12 years old) were brought in together and are a bonded pair who would like to be adopted together. They are both outgoing and social, friendly and gentle, and quite lively. Leo has the softest fur, and Simba is a clown who will do anything for a treat. They're both able to live with other cats, and maybe even a cat loving dog! Stop in at the shelter and meet them to see if they're a good fit for your family!
This little cutie is Neon, and he's the CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter, along with a few of his friends! Neon is a mouse, obviously, and is about a year and a half old. He's a little chubby, but has beautiful coloring and a sweet disposition. Neon and his similarly elementally named friends (Argon, Helium, Fluorine, etc) seem to be getting overlooked when it comes to adoption, and they need someone to give them a chance to show what nice little buddies they make. Mice are clean, intelligent and adventurous creatures who are a blast to watch and just generally lovely to be around - and get a load of those tiny pink feet!! Stop in at the Critter Room at the shelter and see them in action!
Hello! This gorgeous creature is Bellamy, and she's the CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter this week. Bellamy is a total love bug who is whip smart, calm and collected, and would make a fabulous addition to any family with children over 6. I'm sure she's wonderful with small children also, but she's a BIG girl and could bowl a really little one over. Bellamy knows a few commands and has a very soft mouth, meaning that she takes treats and food very gently and is conscious of your fingers the whole time. She sat for her photos like it was her job! What a very good girl. Bellamy was found as a stray and is recovering well from some skin issues. With a little more TLC, she will be a show-stopper! Stop in at the shelter and see if Bellamy is your new best girl.
This extremely handsome fellow is Tommy T, and he's the CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Tommy is an 8 year old domestic shorthair of the black and white persuasion, otherwise known as a tuxedo cat. He's quick and curious, affectionate and opinionated, and he would like to be the only pet in his new forever home. He loves treats, and will do almost anything you ask for one. He was described to me as "spicy" when you try to pick him up, so going slow seems to be a smart move with Tommy. I found him to be charming and social. Might he be your newest family member? Stop in at the shelter and see!
Usually when I arrive at the Seattle Animal Shelter for a Pet of the Week session, I ask who needs a little extra publicity and has been in the shelter a little longer than the others. This week, after it was decided that a cat was to be my subject, the staff member who was helping me pick asked with a laugh, "Does it have to be a cute one?". Apparently, this little lady, Cali, has been overlooked a bit because she is recovering from a skin condition and looks a little funky. But it doesn't take more than a second to discover that she is a very special and loving cat! Cali is about 12 years old and needs to be on a grain-free diet - luckily these days, grain-free, high quality cat foods are easy to come by. Cali seems to be a Siamese calico mix. She's got beautiful olive colored eyes and the softest coat. She's quick to purr and loves to be loved on. She's also extremely tolerant - I must have taken her food away 4 or 5 times in order to get shots of her (of course, I arrived at lunchtime) and she just purred and leaned in for ear scritches and got back to chowing down when I gave it back. Cali is not only cute, but she's ADORABLE once you spend a minute with her. Stop in at the shelter to experience the Cali love for yourself!
Meet Roxy, this week's CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Roxy is a beautiful, dark lady of about 4 years old. She is chatty and playful and loves a good chin scritch, but she's looking for a home without small children as she doesn't like a lot of physical attention. She demands a certain amount of respect, and she certainly deserves it. Roxy has a lot of personality and will make her lucky new family a wonderful and charismatic companion. Stop in at the shelter and see if Roxy could be your feline BFF!
This little dude, Finch, is basically a party on paws, and he's this weeks CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! No one is quite sure how old Finch is - possibly in the 7 or 8 year range - but he plays and lives like a 3 year old! He's sweet and sociable and LOVES to be on the move. He would make a fabulous jogging or hiking buddy, despite the fact that he has had both knees replaced. Finch would do best as an only pet, and will keep you entertained with his silly party boy nature. He loves people and is an enthusiastic kisser! If you're looking for a good time and a loyal and wonderful best friend, contact the shelter to arrange a meeting with him.
This gorgeous creature is Olivia - how amazing is that SMILE? Olivia is 13 years old and despite her recent struggle with cancer, is a happy girl who wants to walk and sniff and play. She can't go as hard as she used to, and has to take meds and has her slow days, but she has a sweet and gentle spirit and a loving human who takes very good care of her. She is a shining example of our canine friends' ability to live in the moment and not let much get them down. We could really improve our quality of life if we took a few hints from Olivia!
Well, if Jasper isn't the cutest thing you've seen all week, then you've been spending too much time on the internet! Jasper, a Siamese mix with awesome seal-point stripes, is the CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter this week. He's 2-5 years old, slightly shy but VERY sweet and affectionate. He loved getting scratched behind the ears and under the chin during our photo session, and purred the whole time. Jasper would be best as the only pet in his new home. Do you have room in your home and your heart for this sweetheart?
Meet Bobby, CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Isn't he adorable? Bobby is a 9 year old Shih Tzu mix who is short a few teeth but is long on fun and sweetness. Bobby knows a few commands and seems to be quite food motivated (as long as the food is soft) and therefore easy to work with. He is a little more comfortable with women than men, but will relax and fit right in once he's found a stable and loving home. Bobby will make some lucky family a loyal and charismatic little best friend. Stop in the the shelter and see if Bobby is a good match for you!
I seriously cannot spend enough time with iguanas - they are SO COOL. This cutie is Zep, CityStream's Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Zep is a smaller sized green iguana who is friendly, charismatic, and who is missing a bit of tail, as seen in the following photo. It doesn't seem to be much of an issue, though, and certainly doesn't detract from his or her good looks! I say "his or her" because we're not 100% sure of Zep's gender. Apparently it's kind of hard to tell, but the shelter is leaning toward female because of the petite body size. Anyway, Zep is a ROCK STAR, as are all iguanas, and is looking for a forever home with someone experienced with reptiles and their specific dietary and climatic needs. Stop in at the shelter and see if Zep might fit into your family!
Meet sweet Mama, this week's CityStream Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Mama just couldn't be any nicer if she tried - she's charming and affectionate and, as an added bonus, is quite friendly with other cats. Mama would be wonderful around kids and other pets and would make a nice addition to almost any household. She is reported to be an expert cuddler and will run to greet you at the door when you come home! Mama is diabetic, and will need daily shots of insulin, which she takes with zero fuss and bother. She wants her potential adopter to know that the shots are really no big deal, they don't hurt at all, and that she is ready to live a long and active life in her new forever home. She has so much love to give! Mama is in foster care, so if you contact the shelter, they can arrange a meeting for you.
Some people are big dog lovers and others are little dog fans. We all have different backgrounds with dogs and our reasons for liking one kind over another, rational or not. I'll admit that I wasn't always enamored of the little guys. I grew up with big dogs and appreciate their big dog qualities - their ability to pull me up hills, their imposing protectiveness, their uses as giant pillows. But in recent years, I've really come to appreciate the tinier canines. They often have outsized personalities and can be as brave as lions. They are easy to scoop up and carry with you wherever you go. They tend to live longer than the big guys. And a chihuahua is just as doglike in the best ways as a mastiff is.
This little dude is Pepper and despite his diminutive size, he's ALL dog. He's smart and bold and doesn't miss a thing. He was a blast to hang out with along with his wonderful person. We lucked out and had a semi-sunny day at the beach for our session!
This adorable little muffin is Daisy, CityStream's Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Daisy is a wonderful, smaller pup who is very well-behaved, knows a few commands, and is rumored to be a world class snuggler. She's soft as a bunny and about as cute as they get. The whole time we were together, her tail never stopped wagging. Stop in at the shelter and see if sweet Miss Daisy is a good match for your family!
What's more fun than a birthday party for two pugs attended by all of their friends and their friends' people in a fun space just for dogs with drinks for the humans? Um, NOTHING! Bruno (12) and Raisin (9) celebrate their birthdays together, and I was lucky enough to be asked to capture it this year. If you haven't been yet, Dogwood Play Park is a really special space where dogs can play together inside or outside while their people socialize and supervise. They have special rooms for parties and often the Seattle Barkery doggy food truck shows up! Bruno and Raisin loved getting to hang out and play with their friends on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Happy Birthday, Sweet Pups!!
One of my favorite things about being a pet photographer is the tiny peeks I get into my clients' family lives. Lilly and Lamar are two sassy rescue dogs who lucked into the nicest family. They're both about 10 years old, active and full of personality. Lilly is more laid back and stately, but has a wide streak of playfulness in her. Lamar is a puppylike goofball who has lots of energy and is a little bit of a dork. Both are sweet and sensitive, and wonderful companions to their people.
If this goofball looks familiar, it's because you've seen him before! Dylan has been the CityStream Pet of the Week several times now, and he just keeps getting cuter. He is an enthusiastic and wonderfully people-friendly pup who loves to learn and try new things. He has been working very hard at being calm around other dogs by participating in walks with Seattle WalkABulls and doing lots of training with his foster mom. Dylan has a lot of energy and would love to be part of an active family, but he also knows how to calm down and be a couch potato with you! He is available for adoption through the Seattle Animal Shelter, and he will make his lucky adopter a dedicated and fun furry friend.
Meet adorable Blueberry, CityStream's Pet of the Week at the Seattle Animal Shelter! Blueberry is 13 years old, in very good health, and is a little shy around men at first, but warms up with a little time. I found her to be sweet and playful and quite affectionate. And look at those gorgeous green eyes! Contact the Seattle Animal Shelter if you're interested in adopting Blueberry. She's in foster care, so a meeting can be arranged!
10 years ago when I first started Raindog, a mean-spirited dog shop owner told me that pet photography was a "cute idea and all", but that I would ultimately only be hired by people with old and dying dogs, and that I should be "ready for that". Of course, she was mostly wrong. I've photographed every kind of pet at every age and stage of life. Happy, sad, young, old, crazy, sedate, dogs, cats, chickens, lizards, horses, rabbits, EVERYTHING. Every session I've shot has been sweet and funny and meaningful in some way. And luckily along the way, I've been able to help a lot of animals who desperately need loving homes to find them. But I have to say, the sessions I have done with beloved pets who are about to pass on are the very most precious ones. I am incredibly honored and grateful to get to help people create lasting memories with their pets when they know their time is limited. That these people trust me to capture the unique personality of this creature who will never again exist on this planet truly blows my mind. And every time, I hope so much that I can do this animal and their special relationship justice. It's these sessions that have made me want to become a better photographer.
Harlech here lived in two homes before he found his forever family. He wasn't an easy dog because he was SMART and resourceful and a little bit sly. But once he found his people, he was SET. They loved him as much as anyone can love another creature. Harlech didn't know he had bone cancer, and during our session, he was a little slow because his leg hurt him, but his spirits were high and he had a fabulous time posing for me and getting lots of treats and loves. He didn't know that his time was short, and so he lived his life like any good dog does. He enjoyed his outdoor time and ate his favorite foods and stayed close to the people he loved. And when his time was up, he said goodbye with grace and dignity, both because that's who he was, and because his family would NEVER let him suffer. I am SO thankful to have had the opportunity to meet him, and other dogs like him who are loved and treasured and whose people want to capture a little something of them before they go. That pet shop lady had NO IDEA of the value of these sessions, and I'm so glad I didn't let myself be discouraged by her. They are the reason I do what I do, and why I love it so very much.
Finally after a long winters break, we are back with a CityStream Pet of the Week! This beautiful girl is Swany and she's available for adoption through the Seattle Animal Shelter. Swany bears the scars of a rough start in life, but now she is ready for a new beginning with a loving forever family. Sensitive and shy, Swany needs someone to take things slowly with her and build a relationship with some stability and trust. She is already starting to blossom and show her sweet personality in foster care, and will make her lucky adopter a wonderful loyal friend. Swany is a nice medium size and has the cutest flip-forward ears and soulful honey brown eyes. Contact the Seattle Animal Shelter for a meeting with her if you think she might be a good fit for your family!
