Have you ever met a chinchilla? They are about the size of a guinea pig, pretty amiable and have the softest fur you've ever touched! This week's CityStream Pet of the Week is actually over 20 chinchillas who are in need of good homes! Some of them are at the Seattle Animal Shelter and some are in foster homes. So here's what I've learned about chinchillas. They are a member of the squirrel family and are most active at dusk and dawn. They are hypoallergenic and they need dust baths regularly to clean and maintain their beautiful soft coats. They need plenty of exercise and because their teeth never stop growing, they need to be provided with things to chew on. Their dust and chewables, bedding and cages are easily available at well-stocked pet supply stores. They don't seem to make much noise and the one that I met wasn't opposed to being handled. If you're interested in meeting one (or several) of these fun little critters, stop in at the Seattle Animal Shelter!
